Creating 3D Animations for the Tag Heuer Smartwatch
Tag Heuer approached us with an exciting project for their Connected Calibre E4 smartwatch. The challenge was to create engaging and beautiful 3D animations of a virtual sport coach doing 20 different exercises, which would be visible directly on the watch face. We took on this task with enthusiasm and delivered an innovative and high-quality solution that met all the client's needs.
Perfect loops
Each animation had to loop perfectly so they could be played in seamless loops on the watch. This included both the movement of the avatar, as long as all the abstract effects in the animated textures.
Designing the Virtual Avatar
The virtual avatar was a key part of the project, as it was the main visual element that users would see on the watch face. We proposed a lot of crafted original stylized designs for the virtual coach, experimenting with particles, abstract and organic forms, polygons, and wireframe graphics.
Ultimately, the client chose a high contrast black and white avatar with moving abstract shapes and light effects inside its body. This unique and modern design created a distinctive yet cohesive appearance across all 20 exercises.
Filming a real Sport Coach
Our studio was also in charge of casting a sport coach that we filmed, in order to use the footage as a base for our animators. We worked closely with our friends at Sonacom to prepare the shooting and capture the video footage. Together, we were able to create a library of realistic movements and exercises that our team of 3D animators used to create the final product.
This approach ensured that the animations accurately represented the actual movements and postures required for each exercise, providing users with a helpful and informative visual guide.
