Production of the tutorials
Montblanc approached us to produce 10 video tutorials to visually explain the different functions of their new Summit 3 smartwatch. Based on the provided scripts, we had to design and animate all the tutorials, from the 3D watch interactions to the motion design textual elements.
Versatile motion design system
We designed a motion design system that was used across 18min of animations. The typography layouts and text animations had to be versatile enough to adapt to all type of text lenghts and duration.
We try to find the good balance between readability, comphreension and appeal with smooth text animations between each sections.
All text animations were procedural, with a minimum set of keyframes, in order to iterate quickly with each client changes and adapt to new texts.
UV Mapping
While we were producing the tutorials, Montblanc design team was still working on the watch UI screen. We used UV maps in Nuke to composite seamlessly the screen animation on top of the 3D render, while keeping all glass reflections for realism. This allowed us to update the UI animations inside the screen at anytime, without doing new 3D renders.
Reveal teaser
Before the launch of the watch, we created for Montblanc a short video to tease the new version of the smartwatch. We played with light and strong contrast to unveil the elegance of the watche's silhouette without fully expose it.
