Deejo Knifes TV Spot

We created a CGI tattoo in two 4K shots for a commercial. We use 3D Rotomation tracking to match the arm movements.

CGI 3D Animated Tattoo

Based on the provided video footage, we had to recreate a realistic animated tattoo growing on the actor arm. The idea was to create a seamless transition between the branch tatto from the arm to the knife.

3D Matchmove and Rotomation

In order to have our tattoo animation on top of the shooted moving arm, we first have to model a 3D arm on top of it. Once our 3D model perfectly fitted to the shot, we then animated it to match the original arm movement with rotomation techniques. 

2D animated tattoo from 3D animation

To create our growing tattoo animation, we used Cinema 4D to create a 3D animated branch. It gave us a total control over the look and the sizes of the branches, to match our client's tattoo original design.

Using 32bpc multi-layer OpenEXR workflow, After Effects allowed us to composite our 3D passes and add creative effects.
